Product Detail

Product Introduction

The main sources of curcumin are the rhizomes of Curcuma aromatica Salisb., C. longa L., C. zedoaria (Berg.) Rosc., and Acorus calamus L. in the Araceae family.

Curcumin is an orange yellow crystalline powder with a slightly bitter taste. It is insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol and propylene glycol, and easily soluble in glacial acetic acid and alkaline solutions. It appears reddish brown in alkaline conditions and yellow in neutral and acidic conditions. Measure according to the OT-42 method. Melting range 179-182 ℃.
Curcumin has strong stability towards reducing agents and strong coloring properties. Once colored, it is not easy to fade, but it is sensitive to light, heat, and iron ions, and has poor resistance to light, heat, and iron ions.
Due to the presence of two hydroxyl groups at both ends of curcumin molecules, the conjugation effect of electron cloud deviation occurs under alkaline conditions. Therefore, when the pH is greater than 8, curcumin will turn from yellow to red. Modern chemistry utilizes this property as an acid-base indicator

process of curcumin extraction

The production process of curcumin extract mainly includes steps such as raw material collection, crushing, extraction, filtration and concentration, crystallization and purification, drying and crushing. The following is a detailed production process flow:
1、 Raw material collection
Curcumin is a compound made from the extract of the rhizome of the turmeric plant, also known as anthocyanins. Turmeric plant is a member of the ginger family and is native to South Asia.
When collecting raw materials, the rhizomes of turmeric plants are excavated and peeled, and then air dried or dried to remove moisture. These roots can be fresh or dry.
2、 Crushing
The dried rhizomes are ground into powder for subsequent extraction. This step helps to increase the surface area of the rhizome and improve extraction efficiency.
3、 Extraction
Powdered rhizomes are soaked in a solvent such as alcohols (ethanol or methanol) or esters (ethyl acetate) to extract curcumin. The soaking time and temperature may vary depending on the manufacturer.
Common extraction methods include ethanol reflux method, percolation method, acid-base method, sodium salicylate method, enzymatic method, ultrasonic method, microwave extraction method, and supercritical CO ₂ method. These methods each have their own advantages and disadvantages, and the extraction efficiency and cost may also vary.
4、 Filtration and concentration
The extraction solution is filtered through filter paper or other filtering media to remove impurities and solid particles.
Then, the extract is concentrated to remove the solvent, resulting in a concentrated curcumin. This step helps to reduce the volume and weight of the product, facilitating subsequent purification and drying.
5、 Crystallization and purification
Concentrates may undergo a crystallization process to remove residual impurities and improve the purity of curcumin. Crystallization is usually achieved through solvent crystallization or washing crystallization.
The methods for purifying curcumin generally include organic solvent extraction, column chromatography (such as activated carbon column chromatography, activated clay column chromatography, silica gel column chromatography, polyamide adsorption method, and macroporous resin method, etc.). These methods can select appropriate purification techniques as needed to obtain curcumin products of the desired purity.
6、 Drying and crushing
Finally, purified curcumin is dried, usually by freeze drying or spray drying, to remove residual moisture. After drying, curcumin may be crushed into fine powder for better use in the preparation of drugs or other products.

Applicable scenarios
Suitable for industries such as food, health products, cosmetics, etc., it is used to extract high-purity curcumin (over 95%) to meet the production needs of natural pigments, antioxidants, and other products
