The Vacuum Suction Filter / lab scale nutsche filter is mainly used for liquid-solid filtration under vacuum condition.   Through filtration can be done simply with gravity, more often vacuum filtration is employed because the filtration speed is much faster with high vacuum.   Liquid poured into a funnel passes through a filter, which retains the particulate, and filtrate can be collected into a filter flask, directly or via a vacuum manifold.
